Nadia Comaneci - (born on 12th November 1961 Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej / Now Onesti, Romania), Romanian gymnast. The first person in history to score a 10 for competing in the Olympics. Comaneci was first discovered by Bela Karolyi who was later her Romanian gymnastics coach when she was only six years old. Her first competitive event was the National Junior Championships in which she was 13th place in the year 1969. In 1970, Comaneci won. She won three golds in her very first contest, a junior pre-Olympic meet in 1972 that was held by communist bloc countries. The following year, 1973 as well as 1974 she won the junior all-round champion. She won four gold and one silver medals at her debut competition as a senior which took place in the year 1975. It was the first time she had competed as an adult. She took home the American Cup in New York City in 1976, becoming the first female to do the backward double salto in dismounting from the uneven bars that are parallel. At the age of a girl she started her career as the figure skater alongside Nina Wayne in the travelling entertainment show Ice Capades. The shows featured theatrical ice-skating performances.
